The weather got a little colder on Thursday. Some students did a great job of keeping their feet dry while we were down at the river learning about WATER on our field study. Others, well, let's just say that "kids will be kids"!
Field games this afternoon was amazing!
Our last night of campfire was held indoors. We had a wonderful time singing our favorite songs from the week.

Wednesday Field Study: Plants
At our SOIL FIELD STUDY, we learned the best songs about Douglas Fir trees, mushrooms and photosynthesis. Our field instructor, Grizzly, was hilarious!
We went on another hike today in the beautiful forest along the Sandy River.
It was exciting to see two of our classmates that arrived late today. Kendra and Brittany both came and will spend the next few days with us. They missed the beginning of the week, but we're so glad that they made it!
Also... we had some visitors today. Mrs. Drain from H. B. Lee came to have breakfast with us. Then, Ms. Amydelle's family, Billy and Madison, had dinner with us and stayed for part of our class meeting. Thanks for visiting us!

Whatever you do, don't call it DIRT!
Tuesday: SOIL Field Study!
It's official! We are having a blast and totally love it here at Camp Sandy River.
Today we got a little dirty at morning SOIL field study. It's amazing how much science we're learning while having so much fun! This morning we wore goggles and used shovels to investigate absorption, pH, and weathering.
This afternoon we'll be having a picnic lunch out on the field. It'll be nice to eat with our cabin mates and get to know them a little better.
We are learning the best camp songs ever. Every little routine involves a song, and it seems like we learn 10 new songs every day! We can't wait to teach some of the camp songs to our families.

Monday: Animals Field Study
Today we are participating in Animals Field Study. The weather was beautiful for our hike through the woods. We had to bundle up in the morning because it's been so windy. We are learning about habitat and adaptation today.
Franky, Ashley and Rosie participated in delivering the morning weather report this morning. A note about breakfast: The students won't stop raving about the french toast with strawberry topping!
Also, all the cabins earned their ZZZ's last night! I guess we were all tired.

We made it!
Ms. Amydelle drove behind the bus all the way out to Camp Sandy River. She could hear the kids screaming from the bus when we turned the corner and could see the camp in the distance.
Tonight we met our student leaders and the rest of our cabin mates. We barely had enough time to unpack! We were off taking a tour of our camp and getting ready for dinner in no time.
Dinner is not just dinner! We had lots of things to learn about setting the table, lining up in STRAIGHT lines, how to enter the dining hall, and all kinds of exciting things we'll get to do at meals. There will be weather reports in the mornings and evenings. Tomorrow morning we'll get to find out which cabins went to bed on time (earning their zzz's) and which cabins were clean and tidy upon inspection!
Messages from the kids to our families:
"We miss you!"
"We're having fun."
"Dinner was delicious."
"Our cabins are small."
"I'm excited about campfire tonight."
